Patrick Watson is a musical mad scientist, an internationally acclaimed singer, composer, songwriter, and producer. Patrick Watson is also the name of this mad genius’ band, fleshed-out like Frankenstein by Robbie Kuster, Mishka Stein, and Simon Angell.

Both the man and his monster have received much international acclaim since the 2006 release of Close to Paradise in Canada. The first-ever release on Secret City Records, Close to Paradise quickly propelled Patrick Watson into stardom, going gold in Canada, and winning numerous awards, including Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize. Since then, Patrick Watson’s fanbase seems to have grown exponentially, with the live show now commanding huge audiences around the world, and bills alongside artists as diverse as Feist, Steve Reich and Phillip Glass.

Watson grew up showcasing his angelic voice in church choirs, and went on to study classical jazz and piano performance, arrangement and composition. He has composed scores and songs for a number of films. It’s not surprising, then, that his band’s music is often described as cinematic and wildly eclectic. In 2009, the band released Wooden Arms, the band’s hotly anticipated – and widely acclaimed – follow up to Close to Paradise.
