Otouto, Richard In Your Mind, Faux Pas nominated for AIR Awards
Posted: 02 September, 2010
PUBLISHING: Gaga Pub artists Otouto, Faux Pas and Richard In Your Mind have all been nominated for AIR Awards (otherwise known as the Jagermeister Independent Music Awards). It's the first nomination for all involved.
Melbourne art-pop trio Otouto and Sydney psych mind-benders Richard In Your Mind have been nominated in the Breakthrough Independent Artist category, while electronic wizard Faux Pas has picked up a nod for Best Independent Dance Release.
All three artists have had big years. Sydney psych mind benders Richard In Your Mind have toured relentlessly in support of their much loved second lp, My Volcano, bringing their outré live show to countless new heads around the country.
Just next week they'll be appearing at Brisbane's Big Sound festival, before hitting the east coast again for another string of dates. If you haven't seen them live yet, we heartily suggest you get along -- it's likely to be a night you won't soon forget. Have a listen to My Volcano below.
Otouto are another band on the rise. After the release of their beautifully sparse and realised debut lp, Pip, earlier this year they went on to tour widely and release a bunch of great videos.
This week, the band will head off for their first overseas tour, supporting one-man synth-pop act Casiotone For The Painfully Alone on a month-long tour of the U.S. and Canada.
Faux Pas, aka Melbourne electronic artist and radio personality Tim Shiel, released his debut long player, Noiseworks, in April this year, to wide acclaim.
Shiel's meticulous production skills, his love of sounds from lost, sometimes cheesy places, and his sure handling of tone and mood made it one of the most captivating and rewarding electronic releases of the year. Have a listen below.
Of course, we think they should all win. In the case of Otouto and Richard In Your Mind, who are nominated for the same award, we hope some kind of gentlemanly agreement is reached, whereby the two share the trophy, or appear onstage together covering Kokomo.

Richard In Your Mind are on Gaga Pub via Rice Is Nice. Otouto are on Gaga Pub via Two Bright Lakes.
