Ladi6, née Karoline Tamati, is New Zealand's premier vocalist/MC, and has been a vital part of the NZ hip hop scene since its inception. Starting out as part of Sheelahroc, NZ's first all girl hip hop outfit, she moved on to form Verse Two, who soon developed a reputation as one of the best live soul/hip-hop groups in the country. After winning the bNet Best New Act award in 2004, Verse Two toured the country to packed houses, supporting the likes of The Roots, De La Soul and 50 Cent.
Since then, Ladi6's frequent tours and collaborations have gained her a strong following not only in NZ, but across the Tasman in Australia, and in Europe, where she has toured widely. Back at home, Ladi6 has lent her sublime, soulful voice to many of the best underground records to come out of NZ in the last decade, and features on standout tracks by some of Aotearoa's best acts, including Shapeshifter, Scribe, Fat Freddy's Drop and 50 Hz.
In 2009, Ladi6 dropped Time Is Not Much, her long awaited solo record. Produced by Mu from Fat Freddy's Drop, the record exceeded even the lofty expectations held for it, and won the Best Urban/Hip Hop Album award at the New Zealand music awards. She truly is an artist on the rise.
