Mayfield was born into music, growing up playing in the family bluegrass band One Way Rider from the age of 8. At the tender age 11, Mayfield struck out on her own, writing songs she would play alongside her brother at local open-mic nights. At 15, holed up in her bedroom, she recorded White Lies, her first record. Only 100 copies were pressed, but one managed to find its way into the hands of fellow Ohio native and Black Keys main man Dan Auerbach. Auerbach was excited by what he heard, and the two began a collaboration that would see Mayfield guest on a Black Keys record, and Auerbach produce and play on With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, Mayfield's remarkable new lp. Mayfield was only 20 years old when With Blasphemy So Heartfelt was recorded, in 2009; she writes songs with a weariness and maturity that belies her years, her languorous voice telling tales of lost love, loneliness and darkness.
