Hayseed Dixie is a U.S. band formed in October, 2000, that was originally described as 'a hillbilly tribute to AC/DC', recording cover versions of hard rock songs in their own distinctive cross of bluegrass and rock, leading some to label their sound 'rockgrass'. The band's sense of humor is evident in their name, which is a play on AC/DC. The band has since gone on to record many of their own original songs, most of which display their trademark irreverent spirit, as well as re-interpretations of other well-known rock songs, all in their own inimitable style.
Claiming to hail from the fictional Deer Lick Holler, Appalachia, the band have been on tour since 2001. In 2005 they played at Glastonbury and the Cambridge Folk Festival. In September 2005 they held their own festival Loopallu in Ullapool, Scotland, which has now become an annual event. In 2008, the band released No Covers, an album of original songs.
