Hailing from Newcastle, Firekites began as a collaboration between Tim McPhee and Rod Smith. The duo has since expanded to a five piece, with their acoustic soundscapes expanding in turn to incorporate layers of strings and moogs and handclaps and loops.

Steeped in the intimacy of lo-fi bedroom folk, but recorded with a warm fidelity, the Firekites' debut lp, The Bowery, released in 2008, evoked a kind of autumn magic hour light, winning the group critical many admirers, as well as support slots with the likes of Built to Spill, Smog and Iron and Wine.
