Big Scary Feat. in Care TVC, Drop Spring EP, Cover Kokomo
Posted: 26 August, 2010
Melbourne duo Big Scary might just be the busiest band going around at the moment. Having just launched their Winter ep (part two of their four part seasonal series) they've just dropped the follow up, Spring. As if that weren't enough, they've also just had their music feature in a new CARE Australia TV spot. All this while still finding time to tour the country and, ah, cover Kokomo. (More on that in a moment.)
Last week the duo officially launched the Winter ep at a sold out show at The Toff. In keeping with the ep's hushed, spectral vibe, the show was a sit-down affair. The Winter ep is a fine thing indeed, and if you haven't got your hands on it, you should get a move on –– only nine copies of the Winter ep are left in existence as we write this. Head over to their store to pick up a copy.
One of the standouts from the winter ep, the haunting, spare The Deep Freeze, is set to feature in a beautiful upcoming spot for CARE Australia's campaign to help women out of poverty. It's an excellent cause and an excellent song. Check it out below.
Continuing with their four seasons series, Big Scary has just put up the new Spring EP for sale on their shop.
Here's its beautiful cover:

And the tracklist:
1. Spring
2. Hamilton
3. Gem In The Granite
Watch this space and our Soundcloud page, where we'll likely stream one or two of these tracks in the near future.
So what's this about Kokomo, you ask? In service of the recent RRR Radiothon –– that long-standing annual Melbourne tradition wherein venerable public radio station RRR calls upon listeners to subscribe and keep them running –– Big Scary, backed by two fellows from The Vasco Era and Brigitte Hart from Your Animal, belted out an awesome cover of The Beach Boys' 1988 bizarre megahit.
(For those too young to remember Kokomo, this was The Beach Boys in name only: Brian and Dennis Wilson were long gone; in their place were a bunch of other guys, including Full House evacuee John Stamos. That's right: John Stamos.) What better way to use this cultural oddity than to support one our fine public radio stations? Have a listen to the cover below.
Big Scary have a bunch of shows coming up, beginning with another Winter launch show at the Vanguard in Sydney. Then they're off to Big Sound in Qld, then One Movement in Perth, before eventually heading back south for the Falls Festival, via another show in NSW. For full dates and deets check their myspace.
