Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of 4. He soon went on to sing and learn the guitar, and to become a whistler of unmatched dexterity.
Across more than ten studio lps - the first half with his former group the Bowl of Fire, and the more recent albums solo - as well as three live albums, Bird has melded a remarkably eclectic range of influences -- everything from jazz to gypsy to Brecht to modern indie rock -- into an intricate, varied and hyper-literate brand of music that is all his own. With a range of collaborators, Bird has toured the world, playing everywhere from the Dave Letterman Show to Carnegie Hall, his live shows varying from sprawling grandeur to hushed, almost austere folk quiet.
